Battletech Terrain from Junk! Thursday, Aug 27 2009

Another cheapy! This time its battletech terrain made by what i could find lying around the house.

First one is made from a cotton buds box – sprayed with GW roughcoat, drybrushed with a light grey and then with windows painted on with black.

The idea behind this one was a Jade Falcon base – made from the packaging of a Bathroom towel holder.
BILD0583

These settlements are made from the blister packaging of GHQ miniatures.
BILD0585

The battle damaged version is done by pressing down on sections and drybrushing these sections black.
BILD0584

The Admin building was made from the packaging for Hot Wheels cars.
BILD0586

The Hanger was made from a toilet freshener packaging – the door was just painted on.
BILD0587

The Silo was made with something most hobbyists have tons of… GW spray can lids :P
BILD0588

Finally, the Billboard was made from a DBA infantry base, pins where hammered into the sides to made the stand. For a laugh i tried to freehand the poster for Mirrors Edge :)

WIP 40k Planetstrike Terrain Monday, Aug 10 2009

That first game of planetstrike has really got me psyched for the next game! Sadly i need a bastion for the 2nd game and some some tyranid style terrain. I only got a week to get this stuff done so this is going to be more “effective” terrain than good looking. Here are my current WIP pics…

BILD0516

This is my tyranid bastion – its made from a gravy tub, chocolate box, Ground zero 6mm bases, foam card and another free Roger Moore DVD (Popular as ever! :P )

BILD0517

I used Devourers for the bastion “heavy bolters” and Ian has got a spare qaud gun for the top.

The next piece is a spare of the moment idea – i am going to try and make brood nests out of pie trays – could be used as trap door stratagems.

I am going to dress it with lichen and nid bits – hopefully will look alright… me hopes :P

Some Hive terrain Sunday, Jul 26 2009

Bought this at 4tk and i have to say – what a brilliant terrain kit! This was the smallest of the kits and i bought this for £6.50 – and you have to admit the size of the terrain piece is pretty impressive. You don’t need glue and depending on how you feel you don’t need to paint it (i am though :P ). I admit it took me a while to make but it was alot more of a relaxed time than say the bloody frustrating city fight kits of GW. Brilliant value, highly recommended.

Big Thanks to Rubbish In, Rubbish Out Saturday, Jul 18 2009

Hey all, been watching RubbishInRubbishOut ‘s excellent youtube vids on making Industrial terrain – i highly suggest you give them your time.

Anyway i thought (as being a total newb to terrain making) i would give it a go – these are my results! Oh and bare in mind that they are WIP and need a few licks of paint :P

I think the last one needs tons of detailing on the pipe – not happy with it atm – any ideas?

Cheap trees! Saturday, Jul 18 2009

Nothing looks as pleasing to the eye as a well created forest on the battlefield – problem is that commercial ready made modelling trees can be a tad expensive – so i thought I will try and make some cheapo trees with what I got on hand.

They were based on free newspaper DVDs (some naff Roger Moore films), flocked with static grass. The trunks were conifer branches that i snapped off from my garden and the foliage was lichen that i had bought from my local Hobbycraft – i used a hot glue gun to glue the thing together and manged to really burn one of my fingers… so be careful :P
BILD0131

So cost wise… the DVDs was for nothing, so was the conifer branches – the lichen was £4 and the basing flock was £4 and I made 9 trees and haven’t even used a fraction of my materials :)
